As Recession Deepens "Staycations" Are on the Rise


With rising gas prices and unemployment families are opting to take staycations a term popularized by the recent recession. The bulk of costs for vacations are housing and travel so family are cutting those costs by taking day trips. As a result travel costs are minimize and housing is no longer a factor for a families vacation budget. Some families opt for the stricter form of staycation and stay at home and relax during their time off from work. Local attractions such as museums and national parks have seen sparks in recent years because they are cheaper than most attractions yet informative. Trips to museums have risen by 60% since the recession but museums claim some of the spark was due to their marketing campaigns. However, the recession has definitely played a role in the decision making process of consumers.
