150 same sex couples are seeking marriage licenses after DC became the sixth state to legalize same sex marriages. Due to the time it takes to get a license the first couple will not get their marriage license until March 9th. Gay couples will now enjoy the same benefits of heterosexual couples such as the tax breaks. On a typical day the bureau process 10 marriage applications but on Wednesday they had 151 applications the majority being for same sex marriages. While same sex marriage is legal, DC may follow in the footsteps of California, which overturned same sex marriage when voters voted against the law.
